About the event
The complexity and troubles in the world seem to be never ending. Covid-19, political unrest, world tensions and war, inflation, possible recession – we generally try to hunker down, feeling that if we can just get through this crisis, things will get better. But each crisis gives way to a new disruption, and we start all over again.
The problem is not really the world and its situations. Rather, the difficulty is that we expect things to go the way we want them to go – and when they don’t, we suffer. Our work is to start with our own selves – learning to see the world as it is rather than how we think it is or should be – and cultivating an open and caring heart that allows us to meet what life offers us with acceptance and peace. From this place, we find a new kind of energy that allows us to take part in shaping a world that works to reduce suffering for all. We find strength and fortitude that allows us to hold all the joys and struggles of the world in freedom and in peace.
This 5-day retreat will focus on starting wherever we are to learn to cultivate an open and caring heart that meets the world as it is right now. We will work with practices to see what it means to have an open heart and how to engage with what life offers from that open heart. Having 5 days will give us the opportunity to go deeply into these practices and to explore our relationship to the world in new ways.
